Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party leader says Pocso case against him vindictive

Former Chandragiri MLA and YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy accused the three-party coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, consisting of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of acting vindictively by filing false cases against him.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Chevireddy stated that he was ready to face the allegations and expose the motives behind the actions against him.
The former MLA revealed that the government had filed a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case against him, which he described as baseless and incomprehensible. He explained that the case stemmed from an incident in Yerravaripalem, where he had visited the family of a minor girl who had been assaulted. “The father of the girl called me for help, and I went there to console the family,” Chevireddy said, presenting a video of the father to support his claims.
Chevireddy alleged that the authorities pressured the girl’s father into filing a case against him, claiming that TDP-friendly media had subsequently spread baseless allegations. He criticised the coalition government for using coercion and media influence to tarnish his reputation.
“I am ready to face the case and pursue the legal battle,” he asserted, adding that those responsible for filing false cases against him would face consequences in the future. Chevireddy vowed to expose the alleged political vendetta and reaffirmed his commitment to fighting the charges.
On Tuesday, the Tirupati police registered a case against Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012. The case was filed after the senior YSRCP leader was accused of character assassination involving a minor girl. Bhaskar Reddy, along with several unidentified social media activists managing YSRCP’s accounts, allegedly circulated false and harmful posts about the rape of a minor girl from Yerravaripalem mandal in early November.
Tirupati Superintendent of Police L Subbarayudu condemned the spreading of fake news and warned of severe consequences for those responsible. Medical tests confirmed the rape allegations were false, and the girl’s father publicly urged politicians and media to stop exploiting his daughter’s name for political gain. The girl’s father has filed a complaint against those who had spread malicious information on his daughter through fake posts.
